The main goal of the project is to construct a recycling line for recycling NIB magnets from different electronic wastes. The line will enable the recovery of those magnets for their further use in the same or other applications. The production capacity will be up to 80 tons of NIB powder/year being able to ensure trouble-free operation for 16 hours.
The Directive 2012/19/UE states the necessity of reducing the collection of electric and electronic wastes up to 2.5 kg/person/year and of re-using or recycling them between 70-90%. In order to give a solution to the problem, the present project provides a process to recycle NIB magnets from some of those kinds of wastes, which are one of their most valuable components and are not currently being recovered or recycled. The process starts with the separation of the NIB magnet from other materials not susceptible to magnetic fields. Next, a purification process will be implemented where the NIB material will be separated from other metals. Finally, the applicability of the NIB powder obtained will be confirmed by reusing it for magnets production at a demonstrative scale, since its final characteristics will satisfy the commercial ones.
